Cave Diving in France, Lot.

28 June 2019

Our next stop after a wonderful week diving in Sardinia, it’s time to go back to my native country and go cave diving in France.

It’s been a while that I hear from everyone I talk to in the diving community that I should wet my fins in France because no, I’ve never been cave diving in France before.
I learned scuba diving straight away with the base of cave diving as I did my open water in Tulum.
Having learned somewhere else, it didn’t allow  me yet to dive in my own country.
So here it is, I put my drysuit and my thick undergarment and let’s go in 12 degrees water (53F). Shit that’s cold! That’s so far the coldest diving I’ve done.

We stopped by the Cave To Be (www.thecavetobe.com) d’Olivier Bertieaux to rent a few sets of tanks. Superbe filling station, good gear, well serviced and Olivier is very helpful. His shop is very informative with all the cave maps, access and visibility of the caves.
After gathering all the information and our generously filled tanks, we needed, we head to Cabouy for our 1st dive. This cave was massive! We barely reached Pou Meyssen before turning around. At the end of the dive, my face was numb and I couldn’t talk anymore. “Oh hy hod, ha wah amahing” as my face was frozen haha. Go diving in France they said…

On the 2nd day, Benoit picked us up to go diving with us. We met Benoit a few months back in Tulum while Jaime was teaching him a cave course and he’s got the cave bug now too. How awesome is that? Connecting with cave divers all over the world. I love it.
Anyway, Benoit takes us to L’Emergence du Ressel and Marche Pied. Fantastic day. See for yourself on the video but those 2 dives were freakin’ cool!

Unfortunately, my cave diving in France stopped here as the zipper of my drysuit broke at the 2nd dive site.
The guys went on the next day to Font De Truffe and St Georges.
Amazing times again, see for yourself! =)
